I have been a practice recruiter for 12 years and before that I worked in sales. My experience is quite wide-ranging as my initial introduction to accountancy recruitment was working in international markets placing people in places like Australia. For a number of years, I have focused on the Scottish and UK practice markets, becoming very familiar with all things accountancy practice. I have also had the experience of starting and running my own recruitment business, an enjoyable and enlightening time but ultimately a little too isolating.
Why do you love what you do?
Helping people find work is always very rewarding but the thing I love most about recruitment is exceeding someone’s expectations. Whether that be helping a job seeker find their perfect role by listening to them and properly understanding their drivers and motivation, which even they don’t always realise in the beginning. Or working closely with a client, consulting with them to help source that hard to find experience that they have struggled for months to find.
