Job Title: Audit Manager – Technology, AI & Transformation (Poacher-to-Gamemaker Opportunity)
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid: 2+ days/week in office)
Thinking about your next move out of engineering, architecture or tech delivery?
What if you could apply your deep technical know-how, your experience building and running complex systems, and your understanding of generative AI or modern engineering principles—in a role that gives you an end-to-end view of how tech strategy meets risk, resilience and transformation?
This role is a rare opportunity for experienced technologists to “go inside the machine” and help shape how one of the UK’s largest financial services organisations manages its technology evolution with confidence, safety, and strategic foresight.
About the Opportunity
As an Audit Manager in our Technology & Transformation team, you won’t just be checking boxes - you’ll be advising on how world-class engineering and governance can co-exist
You’ll bring a builder’s mindset to audit: understanding how modern platforms work, where things could break, and how to design better guardrails. This is a role that values practical experience in DevOps, cloud-native infrastructure, AI/ML applications or large-scale system delivery—and retools that into a new kind of strategic, business-critical impact
You'll lead or co-lead audits that go deep on how we build, deploy and transform technology. You’ll get to shape our audit plans, engage directly with senior engineers and tech leaders, and influence how the bank evolves its tech stack while keeping customer trust and operational resilience front and centre
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Shape and lead targeted technology audits, focused on cloud controls, modern software engineering, DevSecOps and the use of AI/ML in production
-
Translate your real-world experience into smart, risk-aware insights during audits—bringing a healthy dose of pragmatism to theoretical risk discussions
-
Work closely with stakeholders across engineering, architecture, risk and cyber to influence transformation at scale
-
Identify areas of improvement in how tech is built and governed—offering credible, constructive challenge that helps teams grow
-
Contribute to strategic audit planning, bringing an outside-in view of industry trends, tech disruption and new risk vectors
-
Mentor and coach less technical audit colleagues, sharing your expertise and upskilling the broader team
-
Stay hands-on where it counts: using data analytics, code or tooling (where relevant) to support smarter assurance
What We’re Looking For
-
Hands-on experience delivering or governing modern tech platforms—whether as an engineer, architect, SRE, platform lead, or transformation consultant
-
Familiarity with generative AI or applied ML systems in production settings—especially the associated risks (data drift, explainability, etc.)
-
Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS) and related security or operational practices
-
Strong analytical mindset—able to weigh business value, risk exposure and system complexity in your assessments
-
A desire to step up from building solutions to shaping how they are delivered securely, responsibly and at scale
-
Great communication skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels and challenge constructively
Bonus Points If You Also Bring:
-
Experience across regulated industries or critical systems (e.g. banking, payments, insurance)
-
Audit or controls exposure (formal or informal), or a relevant qualification (CISA, cloud certs, etc.)
-
Data fluency: able to use dashboards, queries, scripts or data tools to support assurance
Why Make the Move?
This is not your typical “audit” job. It’s a high-trust, high-impact role with a clear seat at the table as the business continues its multi-billion-pound digital and data transformation. You’ll be joining a growing internal audit function that values agility, inclusion, and depth of expertise—not tick-box compliance.
We’re open to non-traditional backgrounds and welcome curiosity. If you’ve ever found yourself thinking “if I were designing the checks for this system, I’d do it better”—this is your chance to do just that.
